UNDERGROWTHS
Joint Exhibition at Lillstreet Art Center & Gallery, February 2020
Undergrowths re-examines our everyday surroundings, questioning what is obscured or altogether lost.
In Boersma’s artwork, the present coexists with the past. Extinct species of giant plants tower over classic specimens of Chicago architecture, prehistoric marine creatures invade everyday settings, and ancient reefs inhabit intimate quotidian moments. Scene by scene, Boersma imagines a meeting point between Chicago’s present landscape and the city’s past ecologies across deep time.
